OSB panels

OSB panels (Oriented Strand Board) are flat-pressed boards (three-layer board design) Spread out large-scale chips, mostly pine. OSB panels contains more than 90 % of the wood. The chips in the outer layers are oriented parallel to the length or width of the plate. The center can be chips stored randomly or generally perpendicular to the plates of the outer layers. edges of the boards are smooth or provided with tongue and groove. Border type with tongue and groove boards allows easy, firmly and accurately join.

The thickness of the OSB panels is different from 6 – 25 mm. Flat chips with a typical length of 50 to 75 mm in the direction of the fibers are laid in layers. The two surface layers of the same thickness containing only chip oriented parallel to the long sides of the plate. The inner layer, which forms the 50 % by volume, of the particles is predominantly disposed parallel to the shorter sides of the plate. OSB panels are glued with phenol-formaldehyde resin, which is about 2.5 % weighting share.
They are available in several formats. By usage varies OSB / 2 – Interiors and OSB / 3 – environments with low humidity.

The surface of OSB panels can be cut or uncut, raw or foiled. OSB panels are used for projects such as wooden houses , particularly as floor, roof and ceiling design, cover and formwork. The preferred solution is also use OSB panels  as Walls, floors and beams themselves.

Formats of OSB panels

Top formats of OSB panels are 2500 x 1250 mm 2500 x 675 mm 2500 x 625 mm.
A density corresponding to the three values of 6-10 mm 650 kg / m3, 11-15 mm 630 kg / m3 and 18-25 mm 610 kg / m3.

The advantage of OSB panel is a seamless cutting , drill , bonding , grinding , pickling painting and painting as well as solid wood. In addition, the OSB boards plastered with a special plaster, or use ceramic tiling. The microstructure of wood edges protects against kinking when connecting nails. The board has a high rigidity, it is resistant to bending and displacement, which are important properties for construction beam structures . High weather resistance is achieved by mixing wood with a wax emulsion.

History of OSB panels
